Comedy Rocks and More ships!

Hi,

it's been a while since I've posted a blog, but things have been hectic. I have had loads of positive response following my appearance on ITV's "Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford." It was great fun to do, and I have to thank Jason and all the team on the show for making me so welcome. It was good to catch up with Alfie Boe. He grew up in Fleetwood and worked for TVR cars before finding fame in the opera world. He has a fantastic voice, and after working with him, I immediately downloaded his album.

Since doing that show, I've been cruising again, so there's not much to tell you about, because all those days at sea seem to merge into one. I did have a bit of a torrid time getting home the other day though. I was due to leave the Sea Princess on the island of Aruba, but as we sailed from Miami, there was a medical emergency on board. This meant that we had to return to Miami, drop the patient off and set off again. Then, another medical emergency developed, so we had to turn back again. This time, we didn't return to port, we just went back to a distance where a helicopter could reach us. All this meant that the ship didn't meet the time to dock in Aruba, so I missed my flight. The next port was in Columbia, so I wasn't sure how I would get home from there. But I needn't have worried, Steve was on the ball and had been speaking with the cruise agent and managed to get me home by flying from the port of Cartagena to Bogota and then to Paris and then to Manchester. I have to say that that is a scary airport! No, not Manchester, I mean Bogota. You get searched at the normal security point, and then again just before you board. Still, at least you feel safe with all that security.

Whilst I was away, Steve called me to say that Jason Manford had been in touch and asked if I would appear at a charity show he was organising at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester on 29th of May. I didn't hesitate, and will be on with some of the country's top comedians. Names are being added all the time, so check out the details by going to the Lowry's website. It will sell out, so I advise you to book as soon as possible.

Busy Times

We are in the middle of the silly season, and that means a lot of traveling. I recently returned from a quick trip to Lisbon on the "Independence of the Seas" and flew straight in to the snowy weather. I got into Heathrow ok, but getting up to Manchester wasn't as easy, but after a couple of hours delay, I made it.

The weather is making things difficult for everyone, but people forget about the hard working entertainers trekking up and down the country. I'm glad I'm not working north of the border at the moment, as it seems to be shut! I never cease to be amazed at how the country, as a whole, grinds to a halt when it snows.

Each program deals with one subject, and features the family and close friends of the subject. I was asked to talk about one of my great friends, Mike Read. So try and catch it, it will be a fantastic tribute to a lovely man.

Hi,

sorry it's been a while since I wrote anything here, but it's been more of the same, lot's of cruise ships. It's all been good, and I do enjoy doing them. It's the flying I hate.

I have now started back on Blackpool's North Pier on Wednesday nights with the legend that is Frank Carson. He hasn't changed a bit, he might be in his 80's, but he still has them rolling in the aisles. Although I am there for the season, I will be missing for some of the weeks, due to prior commitments. So please check when you book your tickets.

I appeared as part of a comedy night at Ricky (Jim Royle) Tomlinson's new cabaret venue, "The Green Room" in Duke St. in Liverpool the other week. I was on with Jimmy Cricket and Duncan Norvelle. This is a new venue, and the team behind it deserve success. They really looked after us, and we had a great night.

Miller, unlike the others, has evolved with the zeitgeist. He does cracking observational comedy that gets down with both the old bastards and the kids.

Anyone who can use the word, "Zeitgeist" in a review must know what they're talking about! So I'm just going to check a dictionary to make sure that it isn't derogatory!!!!!!

So, I've been home to Liverpool, and am back on the Pier, so I really feel like I am Back Home at the moment.

Blackpool FC get promoted

What a great day we had going to Wembley. It was an early start, picking everyone up and getting on the motorway about 7.00 am. Every car, van, minibus, limo and coach was flying orange flags and scarves. But when we got near Preston, their fans had put up signs and banners on the motor way bridges, some of which were unrepeatable! But that's what rival fans do, and we took it all in good heart. The funniest thing we saw, was a young teenager stood on a bridge over the M6 near Preston. He had got up early, just to go and stand there to give all the Blackpool supporters the one fingered salute, oh how we laughed.

We made good time, and stopped at the services for a coffee. The car park was full of cars, all with orange flags and banners. Inside the services, everyone seemed to be wearing orange. If you didn't know what was happening, you could be mistaken for thinking that this was a Guantanamo Bay Reunion or an Easyjet Convention.

We arrived at Wembley by about 11.30 am and soaked in the atmosphere. It was fantastic and the Cardiff fans were great. Wembley Stadium is quite special, and has lost none of it's kudos.

After a nail-biting 90 minutes, Blackpool won. People were crying, and I have to say it was quite an emotional time. I still can't believe that Blackpool FC are now a Premiership Club. Well done lads, you did the town proud.

The journey home was long, but fun. Everyone was waving to each other as they overtook and giving the thumbs up. When we got back, we went out for a drink. Everywhere quickly filled up with orange shirted people. It had been a long day, but I'm sure nobody wanted it to end.

I have lived in Blackpool for many years now, and it's great to see Blackpool FC doing so well. They are one match away from Premiership football, and I'm going to be there cheering them on. I'll be making my way down to London with thousands of others from Blackpool. So if you're going too, let's make some noise and cheer the lads on. Everyone is getting quite excited in Blackpool. I even did an interview on Sky Sports News today, so "Come on you Tangerines!"

Holidays, Ash and Celtic

Hi,

I'm back from my break in Tenerife, I made it back just in time. I had to be back for a gig at Warner's Alvaston Hall. This is a great venue for me to do. I have known Bob Roberts, the Entertainments Manager for a long time, so we get the chance to catch up. Also, the band are old friends, so we just have a fun night. I left the wife and family over there in Tenerife, but the Volcanic Ash has stopped them from getting home. If anyone is passing Tenerife in a private luxury yacht, and heading back to the UK with some free space, call me!!!!

Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of entertaining at The Celtic Player of The Year Awards at The Thistle Hotel in Glasgow. It was a great evening, and I'd like to thank Tony Hamilton and Celtic FC for their fine hospitality.

Hope everyone is OK and not too inconvenienced by the ash!

Holiday Time

I have finished filming today, and I am going to have a short break from tomorrow. Can't wait for my 2 weeks of doing nothing!

I just want to thank everyone involved in making this series of IDEAL. This has been the most enjoyable series that I have been involved with. Johnny Vegas has become a great friend, and I really admire him as an actor. The rest of the cast have been fantastic, but we would be nowhere without Graham Duff who writes it brilliantly.

So, thank you to Gill Isles and all at Baby Cow Productions and everyone at BBC Manchester, not forgetting the crew who work incredibly hard to get the best out of us all.

I'll be back after my short break.

Filming and Charity!

Hi all,

I've been having fun on the set of "IDEAL." I can't tell you the story line, but needless to say, it's well up to the high standards that have been set up to now. I think that this is going to be the best series so far.

Now, to the charity bit. The Royle Family's Ricky Tomlinson has asked me to be part of his annual charity show at the Liverpool Empire on Wednesday, 17th March. Various charities will benefit from the proceeds and it will be a great night out. This year, it will be a Country & Comedy Show, and will feature Raymond Froggatt, Kevin "Curly Watts" Kennedy, Michael Starke, Crissy Rock, Me and many others. Tickets are available from the box office.

Finally, The "IDEAL" cast and crew will be taking on a team from "Corrie," "Emmerdale" & "Waterloo Road" in a football match in aid of Sport Relief. It will be at Man. City's training ground on 20th March. I will post more details when I get them.

Hi everyone. I've just got home after doing an interview on the Ted Robbins Show on BBC Radio Lancashire. Ted is an old friend, who is also a great comedian. Some of you will know him as Den Perry in Phoenix Nights. The good thing about comedians who turn into interviewers, is that they know how to get the best out of you. You feel that you are in friendly company and it doesn't feel like you are in a Police interview room!

We had a really good chat about all sorts. I even did the "Noddy" routine by special request. At the end of the show, Ted told me that they had had a lot of emails and texts, saying how much they had enjoyed the chat.

IDEAL

Hi,

I've started filming the new series of IDEAL this week. This series is going to be one of the best so far. Graham Duff, who writes it, has come up with some great stories.

Nothing much has happened recently, it's always the quiet time of the year. I was lucky enough to be in the Caribbean again, which was a great place to read the IDEAL scripts. Flying back was interesting though. I had to fly from Aruba to Curacao, which only takes about half an hour. It was when I saw the plane! It was a small, propellor, plane. It only held about ten people, and it looked old, but I had no choice, I had to get on it or miss my flight back to Europe. I was very nervous, but it was absolutely fine. I surprised myself as I quite enjoyed the flight.

Christmas and beyond

Hi,

I had a great Christmas with the family. It's nice to see the faces on the kids on Christmas morning. Did any of you go to the pub on Christmas Day? There's always a strong smell of after shave!

I was working on New Years Day, so my New Years celebration was quite reserved. The show was at Warner's Littlecote House at Hungerford. I think that the audience had enjoyed their New Years break and I was expecting them to be a bit quiet after all their fun. But, I was wrong, they were totally up for a laugh. I was on with an old friend, Jeff Hooper and his band. He's a great entertainer with a fabulous bunch of quality musicians. We had a chat and caught up on things. I really enjoyed the evening, but had to travel straight back to Blackpool after the show.

Then, it was down to Southampton to join the Queen Victoria. We sailed to New York, and then I flew back.

This week was the "read through" for the new series of "IDEAL." It's a chance to catch up with all the cast before the work really begins. I have to say that this series looks fantastic. We start filming at the end of the month and carry on until April. I'm really looking forward to it.

Tomorrow, I fly to Barbados for a short cruise, returning in time to have a day off before filming.

For those of you in the BBC Lancashire region, I have agreed to be a guest on Ted Robbins Morning Show. The provisional date is Friday 5th Feb. but things sometimes change.

Hi Everyone,

firstly, sorry for not posting anything for a while, but I've been busy and just didn't get around to blogging.

As you can imagine, the run up to Christmas has been mad. We call it the "Silly Season" for obvious reasons. I've been up, down and back and forward across the UK. Every road/Motorway seems to be dug up. It also seems that the whole of the UK is drunk! But on a plus side, the Company Christmas Parties seem to be there, which means that businesses are starting to spend money again. Let's hope it's the start of the climb out of recession. We even had our Company Christmas Party, well, Steve and I had a few drinks after a gig the other night.

So, it just remains for me to wish you all a very merry christmas and happy and successful 2010.

Quiet week

It's been a quiet week, but it's a busy one this week. Wednesday is the last night at The North Pier, so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone concerned for all their hard work throughout the summer and onwards. I can also tell you that I have agreed to do another "Comedians" show on the Central Pier, Blackpool on 7th November.

After the show on Wednesday, Myself, Tony Jo, Jonny Casson and Maurice Grumbleweed go straight to the airport and fly to Benidorm for a one off show. We then fly straight back on Friday morning and I go to Harrogate for a show with Johnny Casson and Stan Boardman. Then it's back home for a rest!

Strange Week

It's been a strange week. I was on a cruise ship, but for reasons which I won't go into detail, I didn't get back home until Friday. I missed the Wednesday night on the pier and a gig on Thursday, so to all those involved, sorry, but it was out of my hands.

I got back into Gatwick on Friday afternoon and went straight to the Isle of Wight. I was topping the bill on a comedy weekend at a holiday park near Bembridge. So it made sense to go there on Friday and travel straight back to Blackpool after the show. Thanks to Eloise and her team for looking after us and making us feel so welcome. The mad dash to catch the midnight ferry is something to behold, every act who has been working on the island is trying to catch it, because if you miss it, the next one isn't until 2.00am. Transit vans with bands in them all speed towards the port, it's funny to see.

Anyway, I'm absolutely Knackered, so I'm going to bed to catch up on lost sleep.

I can't believe it's almost October. It only seems like 5 minutes since we started the "Summer Season" show at The North Pier (Blackpool). I used to enjoy a leisurely stroll down the pier in the evening sunshine, but now I just get blown down there. It amazes me that people come down there to see a show, but they do. I always go into the Theatre bar after the show to meet the audience. I love chatting with everyone, and meet some really nice people. Everyone comments on how much they have enjoyed the show. I have to say, it's fun to do, and all the cast love doing it.

I missed one show this month due to a prior commitment. This was a cruise ship, which I joined in Talin. If nothing else, this job does help your knowledge of geography. I had a great cabin, and used my time on board to relax and catch up with some films. Then it was straight back to the pier, and then on to a "Civic' do at "Barnsley Metrodome." I did offer to put the Mayor's Gold Chain of Office into one of those bags, and send it off to get some "Cash for Gold!" I thought we could share it, but he wasn't having any of it. When times are hard, you've got to look for opportunities!

I have also recorded an interview with my mate, Johnny Vegas, for a Radio 4 documentry about comedy and the comedians who work in Benidorm. It goes out in November. On that note, I'm away on another cruise ship on Thursday, so I will have to Sky Plus the new series of Benidorm on Friday. This has to be the funniest thing on TV at the moment.

Sad, but Happy Day

I hate going to funerals, I get so upset, especially when the person that has passed away was a close friend. On Friday, it was Neville King's funeral. I have sung his praises before. He was a wonderful man and a great entertainer, not to mention, a close friend.

I was asked to speak at his funeral, but felt that I wouldn't be able to do that, because I was too upset over his death. So I agreed to say a few words and do a bit of comedy for his family and friends at the Village Hall after the service.

The funeral turned out to be a wonderful celebration of his life, with everyone singing old songs and musicians playing his favorite tunes. Johnny Casson told a few stories about Neville, and Bernie Clifton made an emotional speech. Tributes from Ken Dodd, Norman Collier and Jimmy Tarbuck were read out. Neville was then buried in the village cemetery, beneath a beautiful tree.

Everyone then went to the Village Hall, where we could have a drink and talk about our memories of Neville. I then got up and did a short comedy set, which was requested by Neville's wife, Joanie. We all had a good laugh, just as he had wanted.

It was a sad, but wonderful day and a fitting tribute to a fantastic man. I, along with many people, will never forget him.

On a lighter note, I am flying to Italy today to do a show on board The "Legend of The Seas". I then get straight off and fly back to the UK. So I'm doing a cruise that doesn't go anywhere! You know me and my fear of flying, well it would have been better if the plane didn't move, but the ship did!!!!! I'm not that lucky though.

Wine Tasting, Sheds and more

The Bank Holiday weekend is here, where has the Summer gone. We had a show near Paignton on Friday evening, so, because of the Bank Holiday traffic, we decided to travel down on Thursday. My mate, Bill, owns a Pub with a hotel in Ivybridge, it's called The Sportsmans Inn. We rang him to say we would be in the area on Thursday evening and were booked into his hotel without even asking! Here's the thing, he was having a wine tasting evening in the pub, and we were invited. We had a great night, and I even got up and did a short 10 minute set. But I had a sensible head on as I had to work the next day. Steve enjoyed more of the wine than I did, in fact he enjoyed most of my wine as well as his!!!!! It was nice to see some of our friends that we know from that area, including Martin, who is an Insurance Man and a part time Comedian. He tells us all that his act is mainly 1970's Knob Gags, he's not lying!

Friday saw us at a holiday park in Totnes near Paignton. We were doing the show for an old friend, Dickie Mellor, who is an act, but he's turned into a "Caravan Salesman." The park he works on is stunning, with a mixture of Static Caravans and Lodges. I had a bit of fun with all the owners during the show. I kept calling the Lodges, "Sheds." They took it all in fun, and we had a fun evening. I have to say that the Lodges were fantastic. The one we had was luxurious and even had a hot tub on the patio.

Saturday saw us at "Warners" Holm Lacey Hotel, near Hereford. We drove back to Blackpool straight after the show. I'm at another Holiday Park near Blackpool tonight, and back on the Pier on Wednesday.

Neville King

My great friend, Neville King, has passed away during the night. He was one of the worlds best ventriloquists, who was always on TV during the 70's. He took me under his wing when I did my first "Summer Season." He taught me so much about performing on a bigger stage. I will never forget him. My thoughts are with his wife, Joan, and his family.

Back Home

I've just got back from the ship. I have to tell you this. After leaving Southampton and spending 2 days at sea, we arrived in Lerwick. It looked nice, with typical Scotish style countryside. So I decided to go ashore and find a nice bottle of "Quality" Scotch Whiskey. On leaving the ship, I asked where to go to find what I wanted, and expected to be told of a local shop selling local produce. Instead, I was directed to the local Co Op! I couldn't wait to get to the Faroe Islands to see if the had an Aldi.

The ship was nice, and I met some lovely people. The actor, Gary Webbster, who used to be in "Minder" was on board, he was giving talks. I enjoyed his company, and he told me some great stories, but some of them must remain confidential, but they were funny.

I got back into Heathrow on Tuesday evening, and was back on the pier last night. Audiences are good, and I'm enjoying myself. If you come along, please come up after the show for a chat, I don't bite.

Mick's gone to Iceland

Hi,

I'm on the way to Southampton to join the P & O cruise ship, "The Artemis." We will be sailing up to Iceland, where I will fly back from Reykjavik. I've been there before, and it is a fantastic place, but it's very very expensive.

On the way up there, we will be stopping at Lerwick and Torshavn in the Faroe Islands. When I told the missus, this, she said, "Oh, What will the weather be like in Egypt?" She thought I was going to the Islands where the Pharaoh's came from!!!!! Still, where would I be without her.

Johnny Vegas and more

What a weekend, as you know, I was in Spain for the Johnny Vegas DVD shoot. It gave me a chance to catch up with a few friends who live out there. Thanks to everyone who made both Steve and I so welcome.

We had a long day on Monday. After leaving Johnny and co very late in the morning, we managed a couple of hours sleep, and then went to the airport to catch a flight back to The UK. We then went straight to the Isle of Sheppy for filming. This was for a pilot for a potential new TV series.

Sir Bobby Robson

I was away in Spain when I heard the sad news about the great Sir Bobby Robson. I had the pleasure of working with him several times. As a former pro football player and also as a football fan, I was saddened to hear of his death.

I have my own memories of him. He was a gentleman and a true proffesional, who loved what he did.

Funny things happen

I've just come of stage at Blackpool's North Pier and I had to tell you this. We had a complaint from a woman who walked out of the show. When asked if there was anything wrong, she replied, "Yes, People all around me were laughing!" The show is called The Comedians, I blame the other members of the cast.

The moral of the story is, when bad things are happening in the world, Get down to The North Pier in Blackpool for a damn good laugh.

Sunny Spain

Well, the weather has turned a bit nasty, so it's just as well that I'm going to Spain this weekend. The legend that is, Johnny Vegas, is shooting a live DVD at The Benidorm Palace on Sunday & Monday (2nd/3rd Aug.) I'm going to give him some moral support........! Oh, and we might have a drink.

If anyone is going to be in Benidorm at the weekend, why not get yourself to down to Benidorm Palace and experience Johnny Vegas live.

It's Sunday, it's 2 o'clock in the afternoon and I've just got home from last night's gig in the Isle of White. It's a long way from Blackpool for one night, but it was well worth it, they were a great crowd. I also did an interview for the local radio station which will go out soon.

On a different note, My great friend, Neville King, the legendary Ventriloquist has been taken ill. He has always been a great inspiration to me, so I want to wish him well and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Hi all,

we have just agreed to film a pilot for a BBC comedy. I can't say too much at the moment, but if all goes well, and it gets commissioned, I will tell you more.

Mick Miller is appearing each Wednesday throughout the summer at Blackpool’s North Pier. The show opened on 15^th July and runs until 28^th October. Robin Duke, from Blackpool Evening Gazette was at the opening night, and wrote the following about Mick Miller.

Mick Miller is always a delight. Constantly updating his material, his

laconic delivery is always a winner. The comic timing and the hint of anger work perfectly whether he is honing in on vegetarians and country and western singers or Derek Acorah and the perils of flying.

His Blue Bayou spoof and drunken Noddy presenter are still there – but they've been freshened up to great effect.

Wow, it's been a while but I have managed to get the lazy sod that does my website to design me a new look.

This blog is a new feature, I will be posting event details and stories of what's going on round the comedy circuit, oh and don't forget my acting work.
